1. - How to draw the line: How to Set Healthy Boundaries Every Day, A. Katherine
This book is a must if you’re navigating the big task of setting healthy boundaries in your life. Whether it be understanding your personal space, learning to say “no,” or navigating difficult relationships, this is a great read.
2. The Mindful path to Self-compassion, Germer
If you’re looking to dig deeper and get to know yourself better, I suggest having the helpful tool known as "self-compassion" along for the ride. It doesn’t matter how much we know about ourselves, but how much compassion we add to the mix while we are in route for self-discovery. You can know all there is to know about yourself, however, without compassion it could lead to a lot of self-hatred and criticism. Check out this book if you struggle to offer yourself kindness.
3. Getting past your past: Take control of your life with self-help techniques from EMDR Therapy, Shapiro
This is a book I recommend to clients when we start through the EMDR process. EMDR is a type of therapy first used for war vets who had PTSD. You don't have to have the severity of trauma as a war vet to benefit from EMDR. It helps identify a person's irrational core belief, such as "I'm not lovable" to something that fits much better. In this book you'll come to understand EMDR better and find helpful tips to apply the knowledge to your own life. Don't worry, you DON'T need to be a therapist to read it.
4. The Mindful Couple: How Acceptance and Mindfulness Can Lead You to the Love you Want, Walser & Westrup
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention a book that helps bring a deeper connection to a romantic relationship. I love this book’s style. It has short chapters and makes processing the suggestions super easy. The book is written based off of ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy).
5. The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to be and Embrace Who you Are, Brown
This might be my all-time favorite for books to read to help with self-growth. Each chapter was so helpful. It talks about perfectionism, making time for fun & play, and tapping into our creative side. Do yourself a favor and read this book. Thanks, Brene!
6. Traveling Mercies: Some thoughts on faith, Lamott
This book is a funny, easy read. The author, Anne Lamott, is a great storyteller and pulls readers into her own journey to faith. As you read, you will be inspired in our own journey to look into life's mysteries and you might even discover a bit more about yourself.
In order to grow we don’t need books, but they sure can help. They can help guide the process when we start to feel stuck. If you want to know more about growing in awareness, check out my course!
